EVALUATION INDICATORS AND COMPETENCES DEVELOPMENT ANALYSIS OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN THE PROCESS OF DIPLOMA WORK PREPARATION AND DEFENCE

Abstract

Background. In recent years, a lot of consideration in pedagogy has been given to formation formation of competences in university students. Some aspects of the said problem are reflected in scientific literature. However, one may ascertain that despite the multiaspect nature of approaches the problem of competences formation in university students is far from being solved. It especially concerns evaluation indicators of diploma works, the analysis of competence’s development during diploma works’ defence. The aim of the research is to develop diploma work evaluation criteria, to analyze development of competences on the basis of characteristics of evaluative means and the five-point evaluative scale.
Materials and methods. The research tasks were implemented through analyzing psychological and pedagogical, methodological and scientific literature on the prob-lem under consideration.
Results. According to the competence approach conception, a university graduate must possess both professional and general, universal competences. A question ari¬ses – how these competences should be evaluated, especially at the final stage of education, during diploma work preparation. At the present time, the means to evaluate the final state examination are at the initial stage of development. The author has attempted to evaluate the general indicators of diploma works according to the five-point scale: topicality and relevance of a topic, work logic, independence, vali¬dity of conclusions, diploma work execution, report quality, bibliography and implementation, general mark. The researcher analyzed the level of development of competences during diploma work defence by the example of the “Technology” (teacher training) bachelor degree program.
Conclusions. The study and knowledge of the problem of evaluating and analy-zing competence development in university students during diploma work defence allows to direct students to reach the highest final result.
